Information about Mahar Battalion - The Hidden Warriors
Mahar Battalion have big history and they known as warriors. Some example were hidden in history of India where we know about Mahar Warriors and their glory.
1. Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj era:- In Shivaji Maharaj army 13 Mahar warriors are the chief of Forts. The surname or title as "Dhale" were given them to protect forts.
2. The First Bajirao:- In Peshva Kingdom presence of Mahar warriors are great and they got honored in Peshva army.
3. British raj army:- The father of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar retired from army and like them many soldiers working for British army.
In 1892, British Raj stopped recruitment of Mahar and lower cast candidates with reason of economical instability. Where the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had taken initiative to reopen recruitment in British army for Mahar candidates because the education of their child will free. The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar met British Governor to create Mahar Regiment and on 1 October 2011 regiment was established.
Now onward Mahar Regiment have 23 Battalions and having accolades of 1 Parmvir Chakra, 4 Mahavir Chakra, 29 Vir Chakra, 2 Kirti Chakra, 1 Ashok Chakra, 5 Parma vishes medals.
Mahar Battalion fight gratefully in Kashmin War 1947-48, 1962 China war, 1965 and 1972 Pakistan war. The services of Mahar regiment to Indian government is very great.
